Granite is beautiful
and surprisingly durable. Here are some interesting
facts about Granite slabs:
- Granite
harder than steel so you can not scratch it will
a knife.
- Unlike
marble, engineered and laminate countertops,
granite countertops will not scratch by common
household items
- Granite is
stain resistant.
- Granite
countertops will not burn by hot pans
- Professional
sealed surfaces can last for years
First Step
The first step in
stone maintenance is the sealing of the stone.
Generally, all granite should be sealed for easier
cleaning and maintenance. We will provide you with
resources and contacts of several local companies
that provide professional sealing for your newly
installed granite countertop. These companies seal
the surface with an agent that will provide
protection for up to two years. The other option is
to purchase sealing agents from your local home
improvement store. These products will need to be
reapplied every 6 months for maximum effectiveness.
Every
Day Care
Immediately wipe up
spills and messes. Use pH balanced cleaners for
daily cleaning. Mild dishwashing liquid works quite
well on granite surfaces. Once protected, granite
surfaces only require occasional cleaning to remove
surface build-up of dirt and grime. A sealed granite
will be very easy to clean and you may want to just
try warm water at first to give you the results you
need. Do towel dry to remove streaks. Do not use
Windex or 409 because these products will slowly
wear away your penetrated sealer.
